This international conference explores the trajectories of the “third generation” — the grandchildren of immigrants — in Europe and beyond, a long-overlooked population of growing demographic and theoretical significance.

Bringing together scholars and research projects from several countries, it examines how social positions are transmitted across three generations and how inequalities can persist long after migration. Sessions address a wide range of socioeconomic outcomes, from education and labor markets to residential outcomes, networks, and well-being. By comparing diverse national contexts, the conference sheds new light on a central question: do descendants of immigrants ultimately experience equality, or do enduring ethnoracial boundaries continue to shape their life chances?
